Background

The Visit Baduy Village Project was initiated by board of Rakata Indonesia Foundation to express their believe that cross-cultural understanding will give factor to ever peaceful life in this small Planet of Earth. Thanks to the ever-shaping internet technology that they find a chance to make the issue placed in such a broader audience

Cultural diversity is of particular importance in the context of globalisation. On the one hand, the forces of globalisation are often perceived as a threat to cultural diversity, leading to an erosion of cultural specificities and to a uniformity of lifestyles and values across the world. On the other hand, migratory fluxes result in a growing diversity of cultures in destination countries that is perceived by some as undermining social cohesion, national identity, ethnic homogeneity and societal values. At the same time, minority cultures, whether migrants or indigenous populations, often feel threatened by the pressure of the majority. Common to all these perceptions is fear – whether of difference, change or processes that are beyond one’s control – which is a direct product of lack of knowledge and understanding. Fear leads to prejudices, stereotypes and stigmatisation, which ultimately lead to rejection of and discrimination towards the “other”. The only answer to this situation is for people to learn about each other and to live together, something than can only be achieved through the intensification of intercultural dialogue. The promotion of intercultural dialogue at local, regional and global level must therefore be considered an essential means to preserve, stimulate and promote cultural diversity.

The choice of discourse subject of Baduy Village is based on the fact that Baduy Village, altogether with its people which they call themselves as Urang Kanekes, is having the guiness book of record for having zero crime rate over the millenia. Such a fantastics record is worth appreciated by the majorities that claim their civilization to be most advanced.

Objective

The aim of the project is to call people like you to share ideas as how we help ourself by recognising the realities of Baduy People, its Life Past Present and Future and bring their values into our culture, if they are valuable. At the same time we can help them too by giving Baduy people our understanding of what we consider as 'modern' life in term of prosperity, social and economic development.

To digg and provide information about Baduy Culture, Land and environtment on the media so that it will gain popularity and exposed into a broader audience since we believe that Baduy's Land has its own comparative advantage economic value for empowering its people, developing their children education and health. Traveling bussiness or Tourism is one aspect of activities that can help Baduy.

People, as much as Life, is a mistery. The mistery that will last forever unveiled.

Being convinced that cultural activities, goods and services have both an economic and a cultural nature, because they convey identities, values and meanings, and must therefore not be treated as solely having commercial value
