Adventure the Villages of Baduy

On Chrismast December 25, 2009 we will be together with the people of Baduy, Urang Kanekes. Ishak Ahmad, Ninik Gantinah and I will make a journey to the centre of Baduy. What is it so special that we tell the world about this? Nothing special. We realize day by day that this Land of Baduy, this people of Kanekes will increasingly popular in the near future as a chosen travel destination.

Our objectives is firm, we want to breathe air of solitude peace that wraps the Hamlet of Kendeng mountain. The breathe that will bring us to the utmost ecstasy, connected with our past time, bridged to our future time and feeling grateful of our present time. Although our travel is incomparable with Jules Verne’s adventure of the Journey to the Centre of the Earth, still there is a parallel situation in which we are recollecting our childhood memories, wonders and imaginations. As The Dutch traveler in 18 centuries have written,

"O Happy Baduy who dwell undisturbed and free of worries in the village Kanekes, Kadoe-Koedjang en Tjiboam, why could I not stay among you for months in order to become better acquainted with all your qualities, all your propensities and traits, in particular the character of your religion, in wich the history of your vicissitudes of fortune is embedded" (Blume, 18th Century Dutch Traveler, In Search of the Nobel Savage),

What kind of people Baduy are? They attract adventurer all over the world, from past centuries till present days. As Blume mentioned, their Qualities, their Prospensities, Their Traits, their Character of Religion and their History..all these properties that are embedded to Baduy People are yet unknown to the rest of the world. They are not as popular as their brother of Bali people and unfortunately is still neglected by most of their brother and government. Their life is in fact is a symbol of illiteracy that is still prevalent in Banten Province.

We do hope that our adventure will be fruitful for the sake of Kanekes People in the next centuries generation.
